Official Claim Process Guide

How to Claim Your Lottery Prize

A plain-language guide to claiming Sri Lankan NLB & DLB lottery prizes, and how the process differs for US and European lotteries. LottoGlobe does not process claims or handle payouts — always verify with the official board or operator before acting on any information here.

Claiming an NLB or DLB Prize (Sri Lanka)

  1. 1Verify your ticket against the official winning numbers on the draw's results page, or use the ticket checker to confirm your prize tier.
  2. 2Keep the original physical ticket safe. Tickets are bearer instruments — no ticket, no claim, no exceptions.
  3. 3Rs. 100,000 or less: claim in cash at any licensed NLB or DLB retail dealer, immediately.
  4. 4Over Rs. 100,000: visit the National Lotteries Board or Development Lotteries Board head office in Colombo in person, with your ticket and a valid NIC or passport.
  5. 5Claim within 180 days of the draw date. After that, the prize is forfeited.

180-day deadline. Sri Lankan lottery boards do not accept late claims under any circumstances — check your ticket as soon as results are published.

Powerball, Mega Millions, EuroMillions & EuroJackpot

These are official US and European lotteries — not NLB or DLB games — and LottoGlobe does not sell tickets, process claims, or handle payouts for them. If you played through a licensed online ticket courier, follow that courier's own claim process. If you hold a physical ticket purchased in the US or EU, you must claim it in person in the jurisdiction where it was bought, under that operator's own rules and deadlines, which vary by state and country. Always confirm directly with the official operator.

What to Bring

  • Your original, physical winning ticket
  • A valid National Identity Card (NIC) or passport
  • For high-value prizes, be prepared to follow any additional verification steps the board requests

A Note on Taxes

Lottery winnings can be subject to tax withholding depending on the prize amount and the tax law of the jurisdiction where you won. LottoGlobe does not provide tax or financial advice. Confirm the exact payout amount and any applicable withholding directly with the lottery board or operator, and consult a qualified tax advisor before making financial decisions around a prize.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do I have to claim a Sri Lankan lottery prize?

NLB and DLB winning tickets must be claimed within 180 days (6 months) of the official draw date. Unclaimed prizes after this window are forfeited, so always check your ticket promptly after each draw.

Where do I claim a small prize?

Prizes up to Rs. 100,000 can be claimed directly in cash from any licensed NLB or DLB retail dealer across Sri Lanka — no appointment needed, just bring your winning ticket.

Where do I claim a large prize?

Prizes exceeding Rs. 100,000 must be claimed in person at the National Lotteries Board or Development Lotteries Board head office in Colombo, with valid proof of identity (National Identity Card or passport) and the original winning ticket.

What documents do I need?

Always bring your original physical ticket plus a valid NIC or passport for identity verification. For high-value prizes, the board may request additional documentation as part of their standard payout verification process — bring the ticket and ID first, and follow their guidance from there.

I lost my ticket — can I still claim?

No. NLB and DLB tickets are bearer instruments: whoever presents the valid winning ticket is treated as the rightful claimant, and there is no prize payout without the original physical ticket. Keep your tickets safe in a fixed place until the draw is verified and, if you win, until the prize is claimed.

How does claiming work for Powerball, Mega Millions, EuroMillions, or EuroJackpot?

These are official US and European lotteries, not NLB/DLB games, so LottoGlobe does not process or facilitate claims for them. If you bought a ticket through a licensed online ticket courier, that courier's own terms govern how winnings are verified and paid out to you. If you hold a physical ticket bought in the US or EU, you must claim it in person, in the jurisdiction where it was purchased, following that lottery operator's own rules and deadlines — these vary by state/country, so check directly with the official operator.

Do I have to pay tax on my winnings?

Lottery prizes may be subject to tax withholding depending on the prize amount and the applicable law in the jurisdiction where you won. LottoGlobe does not provide tax advice — confirm the exact amount you'll receive, and any withholding that applies, directly with the National Lotteries Board, Development Lotteries Board, or the relevant lottery operator and your local tax authority before making any financial plans around a prize.
